Originele blogpost van Centaur Biomechanics; https://www.centaurbiomechanics.co.uk/blog/?ID=4&dbId=2152 Mounting the horse seems like a routine task performed ~daily. However, mounting technique and the height of the mounting block should be considered. Previously we have demonstrated that mounting a horse from the ground can put as much pressure on the horses back as a horse landing over a 1.30m fence. When mounting, the rider’s weight is supported by the stirrup and the rider then lifts their centre of mass up. During this process, the saddle is pulled over to the left, which causes the back of the saddle to cross the midline (spine). As a function of the saddle being pulled towards the…

Originele blogpost van Centaur Biomechanics; https://www.centaurbiomechanics.co.uk/blog/?ID=15&dbId=2152 WE MUST NOT FORGET HALF PAD FIT! There are a number of reasons why riders may choose to use a half pad; to improve saddle fit, help rebalance the saddle, provide increased comfort to the horse, and in some cases the half pad may be a fashion accessory. Previous blogs have discussed the effect that a half pad can have on saddle pressures when trotting and cantering in a straight line. In brief, we have demonstrated that the addition of a wool or medical grade closed cell foam half pad, was useful in reducing saddle pressures beneath the caudal region of the saddle, whilst…

Evidence Based research van Dr. Russell MacKechnie-Guire Centaur Biomechanics Originele blog tekst; https://www.centaurbiomechanics.co.uk/blog/?ID=5&dbId=2152 B6: KNEE BLOCK DESIGN AND ITS EFFECT ON RIDER BIOMECHANICS AND EQUINE LOCOMOTION Previously the complexities of saddle fit, and the importance of correct saddle fit in relation to equine health and performance have been discussed (see previous blogs). To add to the complexities, we must not neglect the effect that the rider has on the horse (and saddle) but also the effect that the saddle has on the rider. In respect of the saddle, there are multiple factors which can have an influence on rider biomechanics, seat size/shape, waist/twist, panel content, stirrup bar positioning just to name…

It has been a long-held belief that the position of the girth buckle can influence the rider’s leg position and effectiveness of their leg aid. To limit this, riders can choose a girth which allows the buckles to be fastened so that they do not hinder the riders leg position or effectiveness. This generally means using a…

Dr David Marlin over zadelstijfheid; boomzadels en boomloze zadels

OOrigineel bericht: https://www.facebook.com/DrDavidMarlin/posts/pfbid06tfDSR2TLWFksgXUB82Zg64pzxc8MtNuQKL4K6j3SoG7QQCHocXCRunDXtWK8pPPl ***LET’S TALK ABOUT SADDLE STIFFNESS ***Pretty much all the saddles we use fall into two categories – those with a tree and those without. Such a polarised position. When faced with such a situation this should suggest to us that there are advantages and disadvantages to both i.e. neither is ideal. And one major factor behind this I would suggest comes down to saddle stiffness. Stiffness is the extent to which something bends or deforms under load. The opposite of stiffness is flexibility or compliance. If you have ever picked up a conventional tree’d saddle and tried to bend it from cantle to pommel you will know they…
